Supplies Needed:

Colorful Dots

Scented Stickers

Poster Board

Detailed Description:

Create a theme based upon the goals for the session and have a theme of open ended questions for each color of dot.  When working on Affect Expression the theme for the colors may be: Green = Sadness, Blue = Happy, Yellow = Angry, and Red = Embarrassed.  Ask the child to tell you a time when you felt sad, after the child describes the situation, give the child a green dot to place on the board.   Create various questions for the subsequent sessions.  When therapy concludes, the child may take home the Dotted Poster board.  Be creative.

Children with visual disabilities, use scented stickers.

Families/caregivers may incorporate this practice at home/residence to encourage communication, emotion regulation and enhancing safety.  Children may return the questioning to the parents/caregivers and place dots on the board too.
